bembridge fort
Bembridge Fort is an unrestored Victorian fort set on top of dramatic chalk cliffs on the east coast of the Isle of Wight. It is owned by the National Trust. The fort has magnificent views across the Island and the Solent. The fort is one of many surrounding the Isle of Wight and south coast and was built in 1862. Bembridge Fort was used in both WW1 & WW2 by the Army, Navy & Royal Air Force. The fort is now disused and viewing are by appointment only. There are a mixture of incredible underground tunnels and large cavernous rooms and on ground level there are more tunnels, disused offices, a dry moat and look out spots.
