The Caponiers

The definition of a caponier is ‘a defensive structure in a fortification’. The Caponiers are two apartments built into the moat at ‘The Fort’. The Upper and Lower Caponier apartments are a two and a three bedroom. Recently refurbished to a high standard with a super stylish industrial decor. They have period timber sash windows, iron shutters and rifle slots (this was once an army barrack for 24 soldiers). Both the upper and lower levels retain many original features including exposed 2-foot thick brick walls and the metal hooks soldiers’ hammocks were hung from. Access to the Caponier apartments is via a brick tunnel connected to the Fort’s central parade square.
